DREAMS OF MALINCHE
Worlds collide in a coming-of-age story about the complex friendship between two young women in small town Ohio. On the verge of high school graduation, Emily, a first generation Mexican-American, and her best friend Sarah begin to realize how much their futures have been dictated by their pasts. Entwined with the story of Malinche, Cortez's translator and mistress during his campaign against the Aztec Empire, this play delves deep into the Hispanic experience in the United States, the indigenous stories of the Americas, and the intricate histories that bind us.
“Okay, but, like, isn’t that the point of family? That they want you to be you, even when you don’t?” – Josh, Dreams of Malinche
